În această casă au locuit în ultimii ani ai vieții soții Eleonora Costescu și Vasile Varga.
Eleonora Costescu era născută în 20 februarie 1916 la București. A absolvit Facultatea de Litere si Filosofie a Universității din București cu calificativul cum laude. Încă din studenție a fost remarcată de importante personalități, precum Nicolae Iorga și George Oprescu.
A fost asistenta profesorului George Oprescu la catedra de istoria artei, apoi asistentă la Institutul de Arhivistică și Muzeologie. În 1973 s-a pensionat de la Institutul de Studii Sud-Est Europene, unde a fost cercetător principal.
A fost căsătorită din 1958 cu pictorul Vasile Varga. Acesta se născuse la 14 martie 1921 în Ususău. A absolvit Școala de Arte din București în 1951 și a rămas în Capitală, unde a activat împreună cu soția sa. Pentru activitatea sa artistică a fost laureat cu unele distincții, precum Meritul cultural clasa V sau Steaua României clasa V.
Soții Costescu-Varga au deținut o importantă colecție de artă, care a fost donată Muzeului Orașului Lipova, unde se află și poate fi văzută și în prezent. În 1980 cei doi soți s-au mutat la Lipova, iar în 1992 și-au cumpărat această casă, care a devenit și sediul Fundației Costescu-Varga, al cărei prim președinte a fost pictorul Dan Gherman.

In this house lived, during the final years of their lives, the spouses Eleonora Costescu and Vasile Varga. Eleonora Costescu was born on February 20, 1916, in Bucharest. She graduated from the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy at the University of Bucharest with the distinction cum laude. Even during her student years, she was recognized by prominent figures such as Nicolae Iorga and George Oprescu. She served as assistant to Professor George Oprescu at the Department of Art History, and later as an assistant at the Institute of Archival Studies and Museology. In 1973, she retired from the Institute for South-East European Studies, where she had held the position of senior researcher. She was married, from 1958, to the painter Vasile Varga. He was born on March 14, 1921, in Ususău. He graduated from the School of Arts in Bucharest in 1951 and remained in the capital, where he worked alongside his wife. For his artistic activity, he was awarded several distinctions, including the Cultural Merit, Class V, and the Star of Romania, Class V. The Costescu-Varga couple owned an important art collection, which was donated to the Lipova Town Museum, where it remains and can still be viewed today. In 1980, the couple moved to Lipova, and in 1992 they purchased this house, which also became the headquarters of the Costescu-Varga Foundation, whose first president was the painter Dan Gherman.
